Shoe size

GRN built this shoe around a simple idea: a chunky retro runner that works for daily life without asking much of your wallet. The silhouette takes cues from late-90s performance running — thick midsole, overlapping panels, structured heel — but the construction is tuned for streets, not tracks.

The upper combines synthetic leather overlays with knit mesh panels. The synthetic leather gives the shoe its structured shape and the metallic silver finish that reads well on Kathmandu's streets. Mesh sits at the forefoot and sides, keeping airflow moving through long days. Together, the combination holds its form after repeated wear better than a pure textile upper while staying cooler than a full synthetic.

The sole is where this shoe earns its daily-use credentials. The midsole is MD (also called Phylon) — a compressed EVA foam that's meaningfully lighter than standard EVA and absorbs impact on each step. The outsole uses TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber) at the heel and forefoot contact zones: durable, grippy on wet stone and tile, and resistant to the kind of abrasion Kathmandu's roads deliver. For lifestyle and light exercise use, it handles the job.

The silhouette runs slightly wider than most Western brands at the same size. If you're between sizes or have feet on the wider side, this is a forgiving fit. True-to-size for most Nepali buyers.

Good for: daily commutes, casual weekends, college wear, light gym sessions. Not built for trail use or heavy monsoon days.

Key Features

  • MD (Phylon) Midsole — Lightweight compressed foam that cushions each step without adding bulk. Noticeably lighter underfoot than standard EVA, which matters on long Dashain days on your feet.
  • TPR Rubber Outsole — Thermoplastic rubber at heel and forefoot zones. Grips wet tile and stone pavement without cracking under regular use. More durable than standard blown rubber for daily Kathmandu conditions.
  • Synthetic Leather + Mesh Upper — Structured overlays hold the shoe's shape wear after wear. Mesh panels at forefoot and sides allow airflow so feet stay comfortable through full-day wear.
  • Chunky Retro Runner Silhouette — Late-90s performance runner profile with a thick midsole stack and layered upper panels. Reads well with joggers, cargo pants, and casual fits.
  • Wider, Forgiving Fit — The last runs slightly wider than narrow Western brands. Comfortable straight out of the box for wider feet — no break-in required.
  • Lace-Up Closure — Standard flat laces with a snug midfoot lockdown. Adjustable fit for different foot widths.

Care

  • Wipe down synthetic leather panels with a damp cloth after each wear. Don't let Kathmandu dust sit on the surface — it embeds into the mesh.
  • Clean mesh areas with a soft brush and a small amount of pH-balanced cleaning solution. Avoid dish soap — it dries out synthetic materials faster.
  • Air dry in shade. Direct sunlight fades the silver finish and degrades the foam faster.
  • For the white MD midsole: use a stiff-bristle brush with cleaning solution and wipe off immediately with a damp cloth. Don't let solution dry on the foam.
  • No machine washing. The adhesive bond between the sole and the upper weakens in a wash cycle.
